What do you do for a living? I’m a VA. A what?

If you’re a Virtual Assistant you encounter the line above with every person you meet.  Existing acquaintances will say, “What is it that you do again?” The reaction is the same…

We are a very scarce breed of elite entrepreneurs that work behind the scenes to make you look like you’ve got it together – work wise of course!

I’ve heard about an ‘elevator pitch’ where you sum up your business in a few short sentences.  Can you do that?  I wanted to start attending our local Business Chamber functions but I didn’t know what I would say when I make conversation with potential clients.  I had an interesting introduction once.  I was referred to as a ‘PA on call’. You could call it that but it’s so much more.

I thought it good to maybe help a fellow Virtual Assistant out there create an elevator pitch that would knock their socks off.

The first line I always use is, “I can do everything a normal assistant can do, but virtually.” Usually at that point a faint light comes on and you’re halfway there.  It’s also the point where they start shooting tasks at you, trying to catch you out.  “What about answering the phone, delivering flowers to the boss’ wife or taking minutes at a meeting?” Easy peasy lemon squeezy!

The second question is usually about the distance factor.  “But how do you do that from 1 200 km away?” Then their jaw drops when you start telling them that you’ve got clients in the UK and Australia. You start telling them about all the awesome applications that are available that allows you to work remotely and effectively from your home office without them seeing you once.

Then, when the light finally comes on, they react as if you’re the only person that has ever thought about the idea and you are so smart for doing so.  Then their minds wander and you really start telling them about how they can benefit from your services.  From there it all comes from the heart, and your passion for your trade starts pouring out.

Being a VA has become my livelihood.  As with anything in life it’s got its ups and downs, nothing in life is ever smooth sailing.  But it’s how you handle it and your take on the situation.

So I’m ending this with my elevator pitch. I hope this gives you some inspiration to create your own and blow them out of the water!

What is a virtual assistant?  We are office assistants that work virtually so we won’t need a desk, a computer or any employee benefits, saving you time, hassle and money.  With us you only buy time, as and when you need it.  As a VA that has access to contractors we can do just about anything you can think of.  It’s like having one employee with 50 years experience in making your business the best it could be.
